About Set on the Net

We are Geneviève Bolla and Miriah Brennan.

Both professional dancers and choreographers with years of experience teaching STOTT PILATES in different studios around Montreal, we decided to open our own teaching space, reflecting our unique vision. Our first venture was therefore Studio Set, a Pilates and Barre studio in Montreal QC, founded in 2016. We believe in a contemporary approach to Pilates and love creating classes with diversified routines that challenge coordination, concentration, cardio, and deep muscle connection.

Studio Set is committed to bringing Pilates to the general public by building a strong and unique community. The COVID-19 pandemic became for us an opportunity to make Pilates and Barre available to a wider audience. Many people are unable to attend Pilates classes due to the lack of easy access to studios, schedule conflicts, and cost. That’s why we’ve been working tirelessly for the past year to create Set On the Net, an online Pilates studio, delivering world-class Pilates and Barre instruction anywhere, anytime, at an affordable price, in English and in French!

We only work with the best Pilates instructors, and thanks to our platform you’ll now have access to their classes, which we filmed in high definition video at our studio in Montreal. You can now fit classes into your schedule anytime, at home or wherever life takes you!

On Set On the Net, you have access to Pilates and Barre videos, including mat and reformer classes for any experience level, including classes specifically aimed at prenatal and postnatal students, all of which are available for streaming on computers, tablets, smartphones, and televisions in high definition video. New videos are added monthly!

Reformer

While many Pilates exercises are performed on a mat, a Pilates reformer adds hundreds of new exercises to the menu!

Benefits of Reformer classes:
  • Develop a strong core
  • Allows a full-body workout
  • Improves power, strength, flexibility and efficiency
  • Decreases the likelihood of getting injured.
  • Movement efficiency

Barre

Barre is a fun class with upbeat music that incorporates ballet barres. It perfectly combines ballet, strength, and flexibility in a cardio format without jumping or impact on the joints.

Barre classes improve:
  • Muscle strength and tone
  • Muscle endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Bone density
  • Posture

Mat Pilates

Pilates is a system of exercises created by a German physical trainer named Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Pilates rebalances the body's muscles by focusing on the muscles of the core, which then aids in better postural alignment and spine support.

Pilates classes improve:
  • Muscle strength, tone, endurance and control
  • Flexibility
  • Bone density
  • Posture
  • Stability, coordination and balance
  • Shoulder, neck and upper back relief
  • Lung capacity and circulation
  • Stress management and relaxation

Prenatal

Incorporating physical activity, such as Pilates, when pregnant is ideal because the strength gained will help during childbirth and will facilitate recovery once the child is born.

Why do Pilates during your pregnancy?
  • Strengthen your stomach, gluteal muscles, pelvic floor and legs
  • Reduce back pain
  • Control your breathing
  • Improve your balance
  • Reduce strain when you get in & out of bed
  • Relax
  • Speed up your postpartum recovery

Postnatal

No need to choose between your workout and spending time with your little one anymore! Thanks to our postnatal classes, you can do it all!

Why do Pilates after your pregnancy?
  • Strengthen your pelvic floor muscles
  • Improve Diastasis Recti
  • Improve your posture
  • Prevent back pain and reduce tenderness
  • Strengthen your core muscles
  • Improve your well-being & confidence

Workshops

Workshops are offered by guest teachers and allow you to deepen your knowledge of Pilates, learn about related practices and discover tools to improve your well-being.

The Founders

Co-founder and Pilates & Barre Instructor

Miriah Brennan

Miriah is a professional contemporary dancer, rehearsal director, creator, and teacher based out of Montreal. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she started dancing at the age of three at Halifax Dance, where she completed the Russian ballet syllabus. At the age of 15, Miriah completed her teacher training and, at the same time, was first introduced to Pilates.

Miriah then went on to take many training courses such as her STOTT PILATES certification, BootyBarre certification, and many Eric Franklin workshops. Miriah has taught at numerous studios and gyms around Montreal. She is dedicated to helping clients obtain their goals and finds it exciting to watch changes happen in their bodies, either in terms of structural alignment or musculature. She is a co-owner of Studio Set.

Co-founder and Pilates & Barre Instructor

Geneviève Bolla

Born in Montreal, Geneviève started dancing at a very young age. She completed her training at l'École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, and at 17 years old joined the Jeune Ballet du Québec. She then went on to dance professionally for Mandala Situ, Cas Public, Manon fait de la danse, and Dave St-Pierre, with whom she performed locally in Quebec and internationally.

It was after teaching at numerous studios around Montreal that she decided to open Studio set with her business partner, Miriah Brennan. Her experience in dance and Pilates has provided her the insight to be able to help clients reach their goals, while respecting their physical and personal limits, find harmony and balance within the body, and improve posture.
